Dyspnea Research: What Can You Do?

Despite the importance of dyspnea to patients, there are comparatively few laboratories working on the problem.  In the US, the National Institutes of Health currently funds 7 research grants that study dyspnea itself (compared to more than 500 to study pain).  Our laboratory has been conducting dyspnea research continuously for more than 20 years, and we have advanced the understanding of the basic mechanisms (for details, see the lab web pages here).  NIH funds are increasingly difficult to obtain, and we are now chronically short of funds to accomplish our goals.
